OXO On Barista Brain 9-Cup Coffee Maker

Place the Barista Brain 9-Cup on a level surface and plug in. Fill the water reservoir (up to 45oz for a full 9-cup brew) with cold, filtered water. Ensure the silicone water bridge (internal mixing element) and Rainmaker showerhead are properly installed — these are pre-assembled but should be checked if the machine has been disassembled for cleaning.

Insert a #4 cone paper filter in the brew basket. Add medium-ground coffee using approximately 8g per 5oz cup of desired output. Close the brew basket lid. Select your cup range (2–4 cups or 5–9 cups) using the dial, then press the OXO button to begin brewing. The LED ring illuminates during brewing.

SCAA Gold Cup certified: the Barista Brain brews at 197.6–204.8°F. The Rainmaker showerhead evenly saturates the grounds from above. The silicone mixing tube inside the carafe stirs the coffee as it brews, ensuring consistent strength from first cup to last.

Cup Range Selector

The 2–4 cup and 5–9 cup settings adjust brew temperature and flow rate to optimize extraction for smaller or larger batches. Always match the selector to your intended volume — brewing 9 cups on the 2–4 cup setting will result in different extraction than the recommended setting.

Pause and Pour

You can remove the carafe at any time during brewing — the drip-stop pauses the flow. Pour your cup, then return the carafe within 60 seconds to resume brewing automatically. Leaving the carafe out longer than 60 seconds may cause minor dripping into the drip tray.

Wake-Up Timer

Press and hold the OXO button while the display is off to enter programming mode. Set your desired start time using the dial, then confirm. The machine will automatically begin brewing at the scheduled time. Pre-load water and coffee the night before. Note: ground coffee should ideally be loaded no more than 12 hours before brewing for best flavor retention.

After Each Use

Discard the used filter. Remove the brew basket and rinse. Hand-wash or dishwasher-clean the carafe and lid. Wipe the hotplate and exterior with a damp cloth.

Monthly — Descaling

Run a descaling cycle when the machine prompts or every 1–2 months. Use a citric acid-based coffee maker descaler or white vinegar solution. Run through a full brew cycle, then rinse with 2–3 cycles of clean water.

Coffee Inconsistent Strength Cup to Cup

If the mixing tube is missing or not properly installed, some cups will be stronger than others — the tube is designed to homogenize the brew. Check that the mixing tube is seated in the carafe lid.

Brewing Too Slowly

Descale the machine. A clogged Rainmaker showerhead also slows brewing — remove and rinse the showerhead.
