Oxo 8 Cup French Press with Lift

Oxo 8 Cup French Press with Lift

Love french press coffee but hate the cleanup? The Oxo 8 Cup French Press features a unique grounds lifter to help you remove grounds from the press after drinking. The base of the Oxo press is all classic, a 32 ounce borosilicate glass vessel holds your grounds and hot water, while a stainless steel outer protects it from bumps and knocks. The grounds lifter sits in the base during brewing, and will pull up your grounds for disposal, preventing the sludgy press cleaning you've come to expect from press style coffee. Dishwasher safe.

What's In The Box
OXO 8-Cup French Press with Lift (32oz / 4-cup, dishwasher safe), Grounds lifter plunger assembly. Note: The OXO French Press does not include coffee — freshly coarsely ground coffee required.

Setup & First Use

The OXO 8-Cup French Press uses a standard French press design — a 32oz borosilicate glass vessel surrounded by a stainless steel outer frame. Before first use, wash all components with warm soapy water.

Add coarsely ground coffee to the glass vessel — approximately 55–65g for a full 32oz batch (1:15–1:17 ratio). Pour hot water at approximately 200°F (93°C) over the grounds, filling to just below the lid. Give the grounds a brief stir with a spoon, then set the plunger on top without pressing. Steep 4–5 minutes.

The grounds lifter sits inside the glass vessel during brewing. After plunging, use the lifter to pull the spent grounds up for easy removal — the grounds come up in a compact puck rather than spreading throughout the vessel.

Tutorials & Training

Using the Grounds Lifter

After plunging to your desired depth, grip the grounds lifter handle through the top of the plunger and lift. The spent grounds collect on the lifter in a consolidated mass for easy disposal — unlike standard French presses where grounds are difficult to remove and often need to be rinsed out. This is the OXO's key differentiator from standard French press designs.

French Press Technique

Use a coarse grind — approximately the coarseness of raw sugar or breadcrumbs. Pre-heat the vessel by rinsing with hot water before brewing. Add grounds, then water, and stir briefly. Steep 4 minutes for a balanced cup, up to 5 minutes for a stronger brew. Press slowly and steadily — if resistance is very high, grind is too fine. Pour immediately after plunging to avoid over-extraction from continued contact with the grounds.

Cleaning & Maintenance

After Each Use

Use the grounds lifter to remove spent grounds in one step. Rinse the glass vessel and plunger assembly. All components are dishwasher safe — top rack for the glass vessel, any rack for the stainless parts.

Deep Clean

Periodically disassemble the plunger screen by unscrewing the plate and cleaning the mesh filter separately to remove coffee oil buildup.

Troubleshooting

Plunger Very Hard to Press

Grind too fine. Adjust coarser. The French press mesh is not as fine as a V60 filter — too-fine grounds pass through and create excessive resistance.

Sediment in Cup

French press naturally has some sediment — this is expected. For less sediment, use a coarser grind. Allow the cup to settle briefly before drinking the last sip.
