What's In The Box
OXO 12-Cup Coffee Maker, Glass carafe with lid, Single-cup brew basket insert (for small batches), Power cord. Note: Standard flat-bottom basket paper filters required for full carafe. Kalita Wave 155 filters for single-cup mode — not included. Available at seattlecoffeegear.com.

Setup & First Use

Place the OXO 12-Cup on a level surface. Fill the glass water tank (up to 60oz for a full 12-cup brew) with cold, filtered water — the glass tank makes water level easy to read at a glance. Plug in.

For a full carafe: use the full-size flat-bottom brew basket. Insert a flat-bottom basket paper filter. Add medium-ground coffee (approximately 6–8g per 5oz cup desired). Select your brew size on the front control and press brew.

For single-cup or small batches: insert the included single-cup basket insert. Use a Kalita Wave 155 paper filter (sold separately). Brew directly into a mug or travel cup. The single-cup mode adjusts temperature and flow for smaller volumes.

Auto-on programming: set the desired start time via the display for automatic morning brewing. Pre-load water and coffee the night before.

Tutorials & Training

Full Carafe vs. Single Cup

The dual-basket design is the OXO 12-Cup's key differentiator — the same machine brews a full 60oz pot or a single mug-sized portion using the included basket insert and a Kalita 155 filter. This flexibility makes it practical for households where needs vary day to day.

SCA Gold Cup Brewing

The full-saturation shower head distributes water evenly across the grounds for extraction. Brewing at 198–204°F for the correct time produces Gold Cup-certified results. Use a medium grind — neither too fine (over-extraction) nor too coarse (under-extraction).

Auto-On

The auto-on clock feature allows scheduling. Note: for best flavor, grind beans immediately before brewing. If using whole beans, grind the night before and store in an airtight container until morning.

Cleaning & Maintenance

After Each Use

Discard filter and grounds. Rinse the brew basket. Wash the glass carafe and lid by hand or dishwasher. Wipe the exterior.

Monthly — Descaling

Run a descaling cycle every 1–2 months or when prompted. Citric acid solution: 1 tsp per cup of water in the tank. Run a full cycle, then rinse with 2–3 clean water cycles.

Troubleshooting

Single-Cup Mode Not Working

Ensure the Kalita 155 filter is properly seated in the single-cup insert. If using the wrong filter size or type (e.g., a cone filter), drainage will be impaired.

Brewing Slowly

Descale the machine. Clean the shower head by removing and rinsing.
