Setup & First Use

The Pietro Pro Brew is a manual hand grinder designed for filter coffee brewing — its 58mm flat burrs and brew-optimized grind range make it ideal for V60, Chemex, Kalita Wave, AeroPress, and French press. It is not optimized for espresso grinding.

Before first use, wash the catch cup and dosing funnel with warm water. The Pietro uses a vertical burr orientation (unusual for hand grinders) which allows large 58mm burrs in a compact form. The all-aluminum and steel construction weighs over 3 lbs — significantly heavier than most hand grinders, providing stability on the countertop.

Attach the snap-out handle by sliding it into the top shaft until it clicks. The baseplate provides a stable platform for table grinding — place the Pietro in the baseplate and grip the base while cranking. The dosing funnel clips onto the grind outlet to direct grounds into your brewer with less spillage.

Adjust grind size using the micro-step adjustment ring at the base of the grinding mechanism. Fine-tuning the adjustment requires consulting the SCG product resource page for the grind setting guide specific to this model.

Tutorials & Training

Grinding Workflow

Place the Pietro in the baseplate on a stable surface. Attach the dosing funnel to the outlet if grinding directly into your dripper. Add up to 60g of whole beans through the top. Attach the handle and begin grinding. The vertical burr orientation and heavy all-metal construction produce minimal wobble during grinding compared to most hand grinders. Grind time for 20g of medium roast at V60 settings is approximately 45–60 seconds.

Grind Setting Adjustment

The micro-step adjustment ring provides precise, repeatable settings. Each step is small — allow 2–3 steps when changing brew methods. Turn clockwise for finer (toward espresso); counterclockwise for coarser (toward French press). Mark your optimal setting for reference.

Travel and Portability

The Pietro's snap-out handle makes it compact for storage. The heavy all-metal construction is more countertop-oriented than travel-focused, but it fits in most bag pockets when disassembled. The 60g capacity handles single or double V60 brews without refilling.

Cleaning & Maintenance

After Each Use

Remove the handle and invert the grinder to tap out loose grounds from the grinding chamber. Use the included cleaning brush to sweep the burrs and outlet. The catch cup and dosing funnel can be hand-washed with warm water. Do not use water on the burr mechanism or grinding chamber.

Monthly — Burr Access

Disassemble the grinder per the instruction manual to access the burrs for thorough cleaning. Brush the flat burrs to remove oil buildup. Do not use water on the burrs — only a dry brush.

Troubleshooting

Hard to Crank

Grind setting is too fine. Loosen 2–3 steps counterclockwise. For fine settings, the 58mm flat burrs require more torque — this is normal. Use the baseplate for stability.

Inconsistent Particle Size

Ensure the burr adjustment is fully locked at your chosen setting before grinding. A loose adjustment ring can drift during grinding.
