Setup & First Use

Place the Puqpress Mini on a stable, flat surface. The Mini is more compact than the standard Q model — designed for home use and low-traffic cafes. Plug into a 110V outlet. Adjust the lower portafilter clamp height to fit your specific portafilter — loosen the adjustment, set the height, retighten.

Pressure is adjustable from 22–60 lbs (10–27kg) via the pressure dial on the unit. Start at 30 lbs as a baseline and adjust based on your extraction results. The Mini uses a single tamping mode — insert the portafilter and the sensor-activated piston descends automatically.

Tutorials & Training

Automatic Tamping

Fill the portafilter basket with ground coffee, distribute evenly, and insert the portafilter into the Mini's clamp. The sensor activates the tamp cycle automatically. The piston descends, applies your set pressure, and retracts. The full cycle takes approximately 1.3 seconds. Remove the portafilter and lock into the group head.

Setting Pressure

Adjust pressure using the dial on the unit. Common range for espresso: 30–44 lbs (14–20kg). Higher pressure slows the shot slightly; lower pressure speeds it up, all else being equal. Set a pressure, pull several shots to evaluate, and adjust incrementally until shot time is within your target range.

Home Barista Workflow

The Mini's main advantage for home use is consistency — every tamp is identical, so one variable is removed from shot-to-shot variation. Pair consistent tamping with consistent dosing and distribution for the most reproducible results. Even a basic WDT tool or tapping/settling routine before tamping improves puck preparation.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily

Wipe the tamper face with a dry cloth after use. Wipe the clamp area with a damp cloth.

Weekly

Clear any grounds from the piston area with a dry brush. Wipe the exterior with a lightly damp cloth. Do not use water on the electronics.

Troubleshooting

Piston Not Activating

Check that the portafilter is firmly and correctly seated in the clamp. Confirm the unit is powered. Inspect the sensor area for blockage by grounds buildup.

Inconsistent Tamp Depth

Ensure grounds are distributed evenly in the basket before tamping — the piston tamps to a set force, not a set depth. Inconsistent grounds distribution produces a level tamp that may appear uneven relative to the basket rim.
