Kalita Wave Stainless Steel Dripper

Kalita Wave Stainless Steel Dripper

Sometimes, before that first cup of coffee, drowsiness gives us the drop-sies. Luckily the Kalita Wave Series has a stainless steel version of their beautiful (and breakable) glass version. Both coffee drippers incorporate a flat-bottom design with a patented "Wave" filter. Together they create an even coffee extraction that you control. Take a little time to perfect your pour and this coffee dripper design will amaze you with delicious results.

The 155 Wave dripper is optimized for brewing a single-serving of brewed coffee. We recommend this dripper for 1-2 tablespoons of coffee, yielding 12-16 ounces of brewed coffee.

The 185 Wave dripper is for when you need that venti size coffee. Try 2-3 tablespoons of fresh ground coffee and ideally your yield will be approximately 16-26 ounces of brewed coffee.

What's In The Box
Kalita Wave stainless steel dripper. Note: Kalita Wave paper filters sold separately — size 155 for the 155 dripper, size 185 for the 185 dripper. No server or carafe included.

Setup & First Use

The Kalita Wave Stainless Steel Dripper requires no assembly. Before first use, rinse under warm water. The dripper sits on top of a cup, mug, or server — no stand is included.

Same sizes and filter compatibility as the glass Wave: 155 for 1–2 cups (12–16oz), 185 for 2–4 cups. Use Kalita 155 filters with the 155 dripper and Kalita 185 filters with the 185.

The stainless steel Wave has the same flat-bottom, three-hole, 20-wave filter design as the glass version — identical brewing behavior. The stainless body is more durable and travel-friendly than glass, making it a popular choice for everyday use and travel.

Tutorials & Training

Brewing Method — Identical to Glass Wave

Grind medium-coarse (coarse sea salt texture). Ratio: 1:15–1:17. Pre-rinse filter. 30–45 second bloom with 2–3x coffee weight in water. Continue in 3–4 pours, keeping total brew time 3–4 minutes.

Heat Retention

The stainless steel dripper retains less heat than glass during brewing. Pre-heating the dripper and vessel with hot water before brewing compensates for this. Pour your rinse water through the filter and into the vessel, discard, then brew immediately.

Travel and Daily Use

The stainless steel Wave is nearly indestructible in normal use — it can be packed in a bag, used camping, or stored in a drawer without worry of breakage. The simple design has no moving parts and no fragile components.

Cleaning & Maintenance

After Each Use

Remove and discard the filter. Rinse under warm water. Hand-wash with dish soap or place in the dishwasher — the stainless steel Wave is dishwasher safe.

Descaling

If mineral deposits form inside the dripper over time, soak in equal parts water and white vinegar for 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

Troubleshooting

Coffee Draining Too Slowly

Grind too fine. Adjust coarser. Check that the Wave filter is not pressed flat against the basket walls.

Coffee Too Weak / Draining Too Fast

Grind finer or pour more slowly.
